Janja Vuga Beršnak, PhD

is an associate professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana, where she teaches courses in:

  • Sociology and Political Science of the Military,
  • Peace Operations,
  • Security Sector and Society,
  • Crisis Management and Contemporary Society,
  • Research Seminar,
  • Defence and Security System.

She conducted some of her research in the field among soldiers deployed in Chad/CAR, UNIFIL and KFOR. As a national representative, she participated in the NATO working group investigating the lives of children in military families. She has conducted part of her research at the ISSMI in Italy and at the University of Klagenfurt in Austria.

She leads various projects: Military-specific risk and protective factors for military family health and well-being, System of crisis management in Slovenia, Mechanisms of crisis management, Retention of military personnel in the Slovenian Armed Forces and Socioecological Dynamic Models of Mental Health: Complex Crisis Burden among Professions of Critical Importance for the Society. She has also been involved in various other research projects.

She publishes in recognized international and national journals and publishers in her field, such as Armed Forces and Society, Current Sociology, International Sociology, Routledge, Palgrave, Nomos and others.
